The kit offers a dozen practical, fun and educational items. Decorated with pictures that represent the city’s coat of arms, it makes a great storage or keepsake box.

Who can get a box

Parents or guardians of all newborns in Montréal can receive one welcome kit per baby, whatever their immigration status or financial situation may be. To get a box, you must:

  • Have a baby less than one year old, born after January 1, 2024
  • Live in one of Montréal’s 19 boroughs

Proof to provide

To get a box, bring:

  • Proof of address issued by a recognized organization: utility bill, bank statement, school or city tax bill, bill from an educational institution that is less than 3 months old, or driver’s licence.
  • Proof of birth with the names of the child’s parents or legal guardians: attestation of birth (accepted within the first 3 months after birth), birth certificate, hospital card, vaccination record, adoption judgment or notice of decision from the Immigration and Refugee Board.

The Montréal Identification and residence card issued by Médecins du monde and the Ville-Marie Accès Montréal office will also be accepted.

Where to get a box

To get your box, visit one of Montréal’s 45 libraries.

You do not need a library card or to make a reservation.

The Grande Bibliothèque de BAnQ and the libraries located in the neighbouring municipalities do not offer the Bienvenue bébé box.

Returns and exchanges

If an object in your box is missing or faulty, you can go back to the library within 30 days to get a replacement item.

The box and its contents may not be bought or sold.

You may not exchange the contents of the box just because you don’t like the way they look. If you no longer need the kit, consider gifting it to a family who could use it.
