Montréal’s library collections include millions of documents, both physical and digital. Catalogues accessible online and in libraries facilitate searches and let subscribers quickly locate documents.

The numerous collections housed in the city’s libraries, on the shelves and online, let residents acquire new knowledge, become cultivated or just unwind.

Collections

Several collections (science-fiction, comic strips, etc.) are available in all the city’s libraries. Specialized collections and true treasures (“le 7e” film collection, genealogical documents, seeds, etc.) are available with a reservation or in specific libraries only.

“Coup de poing” albums

The “Coup de poing” collection consists of albums (illustrated books) meant for a variety of readers (youth, teenagers, adults, seniors) and pertaining to sensitive topics, such self-affirmation, differences, mourning, war, mental health, violence, racism and family. This emotion-filled, thought-provoking selection of books helps promote exchanges.

Reading a “Coup de poing” book or helping someone read it facilitates a responsible approach to discussing sensitive topics. This is why every book comes with a sheet providing ideas for animation and reflection to help initiate exchanges.

To obtain “Coup de poing” books, go to Montréal’s public libraries. If you cannot find a specific title at your neighborhood library, you can order it through the reservation service.

Online catalogues

The Nelligan catalogue offers a search by author, title, subject, or keyword. A glance at the screen tells you which library houses a specific document and whether it is available or is already on loan.

The digital library also offers a vast selection of titles listed online, as in a catalogue.
