Municipal court public notices
Statements of offence that cannot be served by certified mail or bailiff are served by public notice. They are published on the municipal court bulletin board and on the city’s Web site for a period of 30 days.
At the end of this period, all relevant statements of offence are deemed to have been served.
Steps
If your name, or that of your company or organization, appears on a notice, you have until the 30th day following the end of the publication period to express your opinion. Then you can:
- Plead guilty and pay the statement of offence
- Contest the statement of offence
If you do not contest within the allotted timeframe, a default judgment will be rendered. If the court finds you guilty, costs will be added to the total amount of the fine and costs claimed.
To get a copy of a statement of offence that concerns you, contact Montréal’s municipal court.
