Get details about tree branch collections
Do you trim your own trees and hedges? Are the cut branches large in diameter? Three boroughs collect branches measuring between 5 and 20 cm in diameter at certain times of the year. Here’s how it works.
Small tree branches
Reminder : Depending on your type of building, you may put branches up to five cm in diameter and one metre long in the green waste collection or the organic waste collection (brown bin).
Branches with diameters up to 20 cm
Branches with diameters between five and 20 cm are picked up during specific times and according to various procedures in the following boroughs:
- Lachine
- L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève
- Pierrefonds-Roxboro
For the other boroughs, please bring your branches to an ecocentre or use a contractor.

There is a fee for this collection. It takes place all year long, upon request.
It is available to individuals, small businesses, non-profit organizations (NPOs) and religious institutions.
The maximum volume for one collection is 10 m3. If the branches to be picked up exceed this volume, you must pay for a new collection.
You must go in person to the Accès Montréal office, fill out the form and pay the fees.

What we pick up
- Tree branches and trunks up to 20 cm (8 inches) in diameter and 1.83 metres (6 feet) in length
- Branches in piles, uncut and untied
- Branches lined up with the cut end facing the street
What we don’t pick up
- Branches and trunks contaminated by other materials : please bring them to an ecocentre.
- Tree stumps. These must be brought to an ecocentre or be picked up by a private contractor.
- Tied bundles
- Deciduous branches and tree trunks over 20 cm in diameter.
- Deciduous branches and tree trunks resulting from tree-cutting operations: they must be dealt with by the contractor.
The following materials are also refused:
- Vine branches
- Fruit trees
- Rose bushes
How to get rid of them:
- Use the organic waste collection if you live in a building with eight dwellings or less.
- Use the green waste collection if you live in a building with nine dwellings or more.
- Bring them to the ecocentre.
How to put out branches for collection
- Put out branches for pick-up anytime after 6 p.m. the day before the collection.
- Place them facing the building, at the curb, away from other green waste and household garbage
- Ensure that they do not interfere with traffic on the sidewalk.
- Under no circumstances should branches be placed in the alley.

There is a charge for this branch collection service. Payment must be made in person at one of the borough’s two Accès Montréal offices.
Collection schedules
- April 15 to June 15
- August 15 to October 15
No branches will be collected outside of these two time periods.
Estimated cost
A city employee will visit your property to estimate the cost of collection. He or she will give you a door hanger that shows the fee to be paid. You’ll need to bring it to one of the borough’s two Accès Montréal offices to pay the fee.

- $2.70 per m3
The pickup will occur two to three weeks after payment has been confirmed.
How to place the branches at the side of the street
Branches must be visible from the street.
- Cut branches (both deciduous and conifer) so they are no more than 20 cm in diameter (8 in) and 1.83 m (6 ft) in length
- Place the branches in a pile, do not cut them or tie them up
- Align the branches so the cut ends face the street
Outside of collection periods
If you want to get rid of large branches in the summer or winter:
- Bring them to the ecocentre, or
- Contact a contractor

This collection is free of charge.
It takes place twice a year, in the spring and in the fall. Our public works crews visit all the borough’s streets to shred large branches and trunks on site.
Collection zones and schedules
Branches are collected in three different zones on three different dates. Place your branches at the curb on or before the date indicated.
In each zone, collection begins on the dates listed below and continues for 2 to 3 weeks.
Spring
Central zone: Sunday, April 28, 2024

Western zone: Sunday, May 12, 2024
From Boulevard Saint-Jean, going West, to L’Anse-à-L’Orme

How to dispose your branches before collection
- Cut hardwood or softwood branches up to 20 cm (8 in) in diameter and 1.83 m (6 ft) in length;
- Place branches in piles, uncut and untied;
- Place the branches in line with the cut portion facing the street.
Branches left by contractors or by Hydro-Quebec after pruning or tree removal will not be collected.
