Progressive scheduling changes

Ahuntsic-Cartierville

This measure will apply to single-family homes and buildings with 8 or fewer dwellings in the districts of Ahuntsic and Sault-au-Récollet. It comes into effect on October 1, 2026.

Each concerned address will receive one or several large dark grey bins free of charge. The bins are to be used exclusively for household waste.

Starting in September, unless you have filled out the refusal form, bins will be distributed to the addresses concerned. Once distribution is completed, you may request that bins be removed or added, in accordance with the criteria provided, by contacting 311.

L’Île-Bizard-Sainte-Geneviève

This measure concerns the entire borough and will take effect on November 2. Collection days and sectors will remain unchanged.

Only waste placed inside a compliant rolling bin will be collected. Garbage bags and surplus waste placed outside of the bin will no longer be collected.

Accepted black bins are those:

• Supplied by the city or with the same characteristics.
• In good condition and equipped with a hinged cover.
• With a capacity of 120, 240 or 360 litres.

Pierrefonds-Roxboro

With the exception of the Coopérative Village Cloverdale sector, the entire borough is covered by this measure, which comes into effect on November 2. Collection days and sectors will remain unchanged.

Only waste placed in a compliant rolling bin will be collected. Garbage bags and surplus waste placed outside of the bin will no longer be collected. 

Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension

Starting on October 1st, this measure will come into effect in one of the sectors in the François-Perrault district. This means that there will be a collection on September 24th, but there will not be one on October 1^st, and so on. 

The collection day will remain unchanged, namely Thursday. Please consult the map to determine the area concerned. 

Improved sorting at source

Spacing out the collections encourages better sorting, as a large proportion of what currently ends up in garbage bins could be recycled, composted or reused.

Over the past few years, the City of Montréal has expanded its collecton services. Residents are therefore asked to pay close attention to the following weekly collections:

• Recyclable materials (blue or green bin)
• Food waste (brown bin)

A measure that is growing in scope

Some boroughs already offer bi-weekly waste collections:

• Saint-Laurent
• Verdun
• Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve.

Other boroughs will be following suit in the years to come.

Montréal is among the 82 municipalities in the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal that must comply with these regulations, by offering 26 household waste collections per year between now and December of 2027.
