Books, films and other documents

Montréal’s libraries offer thousands of documents that can be viewed on site or borrowed for a few weeks.

Open access

Works, journals and magazines are openly accessible, and anyone can view them free of charge. A library subscription is not required to view a document on site.

Search and reference service

Librarians are available to help users with searchers. Library staff can also order books from other libraries if they are not available on the shelves.

The Nelligan digital catalogue lets users carry out searches independently, on site or online.

Loans

To borrow a book, a film, music or any other document, all you need to do is present a valid library card at the loan counter or use the self-service terminals.

Returns

Borrowed documents must be returned to the library before the end of the loan period. They can also be returned through the outdoor drop chutes or at the Grande Bibliothèque (BAnQ).

Section for children ages 13 and under

Each library has a section reserved for children, with several collections adapted to each age group.
