Guidelines to apply for a permit

Here is the procedure put in place by the Urban Planning and Business Services department to help us process your requests and files:

  • First, make sure you have all the documents required for your request (call 311, consult the website or write to us at) : [email protected]
  • If it is a minor transformation request (balcony, patio, doors and windows, replacement of the roof covering, inground or above-ground swimming pool, felling of trees) it is then possible to make the request online and pay the fees directly on the city of Montreal website. Please note that the request for the pool does not include the costs for the fence and the accessory equipment (pool heater).
  • For other requests usually registered at the permit counter (major projects), you must send the documents (PDF format) of your request by email by completing the application form below, or by contacting us by email at [email protected] in order to obtain it.
  • The information agent of the construction division will contact you to indicate the fees to be paid and the additional information to be provided, if applicable.
  • The method of payment is as follows: by check only. It can be sent by post or dropped off directly in the mailbox located on the East and West side of the Borough hall. It is important to indicate on the envelope the address of the property and the words “permit counter”.
  • The permit or certificates will be sent to you by email and the placard by mail.

Note: if it is not possible to send us your request by email, please contact us to make the necessary arrangements.
