Recyclable materials: a simplified and standardized collection
Since January 1, 2025, the recovery of recyclable materials has been managed by Éco Entreprises Québec across the province. The goal is to hold companies accountable for the containers, packaging, and printed materials they produce, and to optimize selective collection throughout Quebec.

Responsible practices to adopt
Follow the schedule for each type of collection.
- Place your bins at the curb between 7:00 p.m. the night before and 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection to keep sidewalks and roadways clear.
- Respect the types of materials allowed for each collection.
Ensure that only permitted items are placed in the appropriate bins. - Do not dispose of household waste in public trash bins.
- Avoid leaving waste or other items in unauthorized locations.
Illegal dumping is prohibited and subject to fines.

Here’s some practical information to guide you..
Buildings with 8 units or fewer are all served by the food waste collection, also known as compostable materials collection.
Since November 2022, and continuing through 2025, the collection is being gradually rolled out to buildings with 9 or more units, as well as to industries, businesses, and institutions (IBIs) in the Ville-Marie borough.

If you have appliances, furniture, or clothing in good condition, you can donate them to various organizations that give a second life to items you no longer need, or bring them to reuse centers at the ecocentres. Visit Ça va où?
You can drop off computers, monitors, and mobile phones at major electronics retailers. They also accept chargers, printers, tablets, pagers, and more. Visit Les Serpuariens.
If the items are not reusable, your furniture, appliances (remove doors to prevent children from getting trapped), and construction or renovation debris (each item must be under one cubic meter, with a total maximum of five cubic meters per collection) are picked up weekly on your regular garbage collection day*. You may place them at the curb, in the same location as your household waste, between 7:00 p.m. the night before and 7:00 a.m. on the day of collection.
Please note that refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and wine cellars must be taken to an ecocenter, as they contain halocarbons and cannot be left out for regular garbage collection.
Sometimes, you need to dispose of a large amount of waste quickly. If you can’t wait for your next collection day or the volume is too large, visit an ecocenter to dispose of it properly.
Ecocentres are accessible to Ville-Marie residents upon presentation of proof of residence and photo ID.

Accepted and refused materials, authorized bin types : Learn how to properly dispose of your yard waste according to the regulations. Materials must be placed at the curb in an appropriate container between 7:00 p.m. the night before and 7:00 a.m. on the morning of collection. Be sure to follow the schedule and designated drop-off location!
Do you have a natural Christmas tree? After the holiday season, place it at the curb between 7:00 p.m. the night before and 7:00 a.m. on the day of the special Christmas tree collection. It will be picked up and turned into wood chips.
Wednesdays, January 8, 15, and 22, 2025.
- Remove all decorations.
- Do not place the tree in a plastic bag.
- Position the tree with the base facing the street.
- Make sure it is not covered in snow and does not block the sidewalk.
- If snow removal operations are scheduled, remove the tree from the public right-of-way to facilitate snow loading.
