Ahuntsic-Cartierville, in collaboration with the Ville en vert organization, would like to encourage the use of washable diapers in order to reduce the quantity of landfilled waste by offering subsidies.
Eligible products:
- New or used cloth diapers for babies
- Washable inserts for cloth diapers
- Twelve-month diaper rental service (or three-month rentals, if combined with the purchase of washable diapers)
- Training pants
Grant
- 50 per cent of the costs related to renting or buying new or used cloth diapers
- A maximum of $150 is available per person
The amount of the refund is based on the price of the purchases before taxes.
More support is available for low-income families. See the low income cut-offs on the Statistics Canada website.
Who is eligible for a grant
Borough residents:
- Who commit to using cloth diapers
- Who purchase the diapers for a minimum amount of $30 before taxes
- Who do business with a diaper rental service for all of 2024
- Who use a cloth diaper rental service for a period of three months and then buy diapers for the same child between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.
When to apply
Until December 31, 2024 or while funds last.

- If the application is made for a child, the following proofs of birth:
- copy of birth certificate
- copy of health insurance card

- Subsidies are set, and 50 per cent of the total amount will be reserved for low-income earners, having had an income equal to or less than, for the previous year, $27,514 for a one-person household, $34,254 for a two-person household, $42,117 for a three-person household and $51,128 for a four-person household.
- Subsidies can be used to rent or purchase washable diapers.
- Only one subsidy per baby.
Eligible for a grant
- Reside on the Plateau-Mont-Royal
- Have a baby that is 12 months old or more (provide proof of your baby’s birthday).
- Complete the subsidy form (in French) and send it with all required documents.
- Commit to using washable diapers for the entire period during which the baby is in diapers.
- Ensure that, if they are still in good condition after being used, another child can use them.

- Cumulative proof of purchase or rental (online, in a store or secondhand) for a total of at least $200, taxes included, over the past 12 months.

Limit one subsidy per child.
You may group several purchases together in a single subsidy application.
Purchases must be made in Canadian dollars.
Purchases must have been made within the 6 months prior to the application date.
Shipping and customs fees are not refundable.
When a discount has been applied to the total amount of a bill, without clear indication of which specific products were on sale, the discount is applied by the merchant proportionally to the original price of each product. The refundable amount to be paid under the program will be calculated from the discounted price of each eligible product.
Grants will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis, while funds last.
Who is eligible for a grant
Borough residents who are the parents of a child up to 24 months old who purchase eligible products and agree to use them.
A follow-up questionnaire about product use will be sent to program participants.

A maximum refund of 66 per cent of the products’ purchase price, up to a maximum of $100, is available.
Social pricing
A maximum refund of 100 per cent of the products’ purchase price, up to a maximum of $150, is available for low-income households. To determine accessibility for this reimbursement, the borough uses the thresholds under the Accès-Loisirs program.
Subsidies will be offered in the order in which applications are received until funds are exhausted.

- Parents of children under 36 months of age (at the time of application)
- Commit to using reusable diapers/training pants until children are toilet trained

To obtain the diapers, low-income households must make an appointment with Ville en vert to complete an application in person. Other supporting documents will be requested (recent proof of residence, proof of birth of child, proof of identity of parents, recent proof of low income).

Who is eligible for a grant?
Eligibility criteria:
- Be a resident of Montreal-Nord.
- Child must be under 24 months of age.
- Send the duly completed grant application form and the following required documents before December 31, 2024, or until funds are exhausted.
- Commit to using the products purchased with the grant for their service life.
- Have purchased the products between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2024.
- Submit only one application per person.

- Two proofs of residence (electricity, tax, telephone or similar bill, valid driver’s license or bank statement)
- A proof of the child’s birth (birth certificate, hospital or health insurance card)

Original invoices will be returned by mail with the reimbursement cheque and the organization’s stamp on the invoice.
