You can request, replace or have a garbage bin repaired in just a few boroughs. Find out what you need to do.

A few sectors provide garbage bins for household waste collection. Call 311 to find out if you live in one of the areas where this service is offered.

Lost or stolen bin

If your bin is lost or stolen, you can request a new one. 
If it was stolen, you must fill out an online police report.

Damaged bin

Your bin will be repaired at your home within 10 business days if one of the following parts is broken: 

  • Cap and rod for the lid
  • Lid 
  • Axle 
  • Wheel or catch 

If your bin can’t be repaired, hang on to it and the city will replace it for you.

The bins are city property. If you move, leave them where they are for the next occupant.

Garbage bins for household waste collection are sold by your borough. 

Lost or stolen bin

If your bin is lost or stolen, you can request a new one. 
If it was stolen, you must fill out an online police report. If you provide us with a copy of this report, you will receive a new bin free of charge.

Damaged bin

Your bin will be repaired at your home within 10 business days if one of the following parts is broken: 

  • Cap and rod for the lid
  • Lid 
  • Axle 
  • Wheel or catch 

If your bin can’t be repaired, hang on to it and the city will replace it for you.

Exception 

If your bin is more than five years old, it can’t be repaired or replaced. You must purchase a new one.

$92.70 per garbage bin (no tax).

End of the pilot project

We have stopped distributing, replacing and repairing the household garbage bins that were offered in December 2021 as part of a pilot project.

If you have one of these bins, you can continue to use it, but you won’t be able to have it repaired ou replaced .

You can use other type of containers for your household waste.

Garbage bins for household waste collection are provided free of charge to Sector 1 residents (L’Île-des-Soeurs and Crawford Park areas). The Crawford Park area’s boundaries are as follows:

  • Rue Leclair to the north
  • Boulevard LaSalle to the east
  • Rue Fayolle to the south
  • Boulevard Champlain to the west
