A maximum of three car washes are allowed on the same day. For more than one car wash to be allowed on the same day, they must be held at least 1 km apart.

Only borough employees are allowed to handle a fire hydrant. The borough will designate a filling site and a borough employee will be on site to supervise. 

Your service request must include a declaration holding the city harmless from damages or claims that could arise from using the fire hydrant and assuming full responsibility for any damages that could be caused during its use.  

You must make sure that there are no leaks in the connectors you use so that water does not spill onto public or private property.

It is prohibited to hold car washes in the borough.

To use a fire hydrant, you will need a temporary permit. 

General rules

  • Only use city-designated fire hydrants. 
  • Advise the city before and after the period you will be using the fire hydrant.
  • When you connect to the hydrant, make sure you do not block access in case it is needed in the event of a fire.
  • Do not use fire hydrants when there are freezing temperatures (between November 15 and April 15) unless you are able to protect the hydrant accordingly. 
  • Do not run the water for purposes other than the authorized purpose. 
  • Never leave the water running in order to minimize risks and damages. 
  • Use a key that is designed to open city-approved hydrants.
  • Install an anti-backflow device. 
  • Drain the hydrant before putting the plug back in the opening.
  • Make sure that there are no leaks in the connectors you use to avoid spilling and wasting water.

Once you have received the authorization, you must:

  • Use only the fire hydrant designated by the city
  • Notify the city before beginning to use and when finished using the hydrant
  • Open the hydrant completely with a wrench designed for this purpose and adjust the flow rate with a shut-off valve that must be installed on the water outlet at the time of use
  • Install a backflow prevention device
  • Close the hydrant with a wrench designed for this purpose after use
  • Make sure the hydrant is properly drained before replacing the plug on the port
  • Make sure the connections are watertight to avoid wasting water or spilling it onto public or private property.

It is prohibited to:

  • Let the water run for any purpose other than that authorized 
  • Use a hydrant in freezing weather, unless it is properly protected.

Steps

  • Fill out the form below with the help of the map. You must choose from the list of hydrants indicated. If your selected fire hydrant is not on the map, your application will be refused. 
  • Go to the Accès Montréal office with your form to pay for the duration of the fire hydrant use.
  • An instruction sheet will be provided to you, as well as a plaque that must be placed on the hydrant when it is in use.

Waiting period

You will be able to use the hydrant only 48 hours (2 business days) after receiving your permit.

Permit validity

The permit is valid for the use of one hydrant at a time. If multiple hydrants are to be used simultaneously, one permit per hydrant is required.

No permits are issued between November 15 and March 31.
