Request a garbage bin

Would you like to request, replace or have a garbage bin repaired? Find out what you need to do.

A few sectors provide garbage bins for household waste collection. Call 311 to find out if you live in one of the areas where this service is offered.

Lost or stolen bin

If your bin is lost or stolen, you can request a new one. 
If it was stolen, you must fill out an online police report.

Damaged bin

Your bin will be repaired at your home within 10 business days if one of the following parts is broken: 

  • Cap and rod for the lid
  • Lid 
  • Axle 
  • Wheel or catch 

If your bin can’t be repaired, hang on to it and the city will replace it for you.

The bins are city property. If you move, leave them where they are for the next occupant.

Garbage bins for household waste collection are sold by your borough. 

Lost or stolen bin

If your bin is lost or stolen, you can request a new one. 
If it was stolen, you must fill out an online police report.

Damaged bin

Your bin will be repaired at your home within 10 business days if one of the following parts is broken:

  • Lid 
  • Axle 
  • Wheel or catch 

If your bin can’t be repaired, hang on to it and the city will replace it for you.

Exception 

If your bin is more than five years old, it can’t be repaired or replaced. You must purchase a new one.

Pilot project

Garbage bins are only distributed in one sector of the borough, bounded :

  • to the north, by Souligny Avenue (excluded)
  • to the east, by Haig Avenue (excluded)
  • to the south, by the St. Lawrence River
  • to the west, by Rougemont Avenue

This is a trial to see if using standard bins improves the waste collection process and offers a better service.

The collection day does not change.

Clean your broken bin and hang on to it until it is replaced. It will be picked up and recycled.

Garbage bins for household waste collection are provided free of charge to Sector 1 residents (L’Île-des-Soeurs and Crawford Park areas). The Crawford Park area’s boundaries are as follows:

  • Rue Leclair to the north
  • Boulevard LaSalle to the east
  • Rue Fayolle to the south
  • Boulevard Champlain to the west

The 360-litre rolling bin is allowed in all other parts of the borough. There is a charge for this bin.
