Homelessness in Montréal
Several resources are available to support unhoused people. Services are also available for residents, organizations and businesses who want to help, educate themselves or share a situation.
Homelessness is a shared responsibility between the city, the government of Québec, the health and social services network, the boroughs and community organizations.

Conflict or distress situations
Are you experiencing a worrying or problematic social cohabitation situation in public space (streets, alleys, parks, municipal facilities, metro)? The mobile social mediation and response team intervenes to provide support in non-emergency situations where the presence of the police is not necessary.
The team acts quickly to respond to conflict situations or assist people in crisis or distress, directing them to appropriate resources.
The mobile social mediation and response team is currently deployed in Le Plateau-Mont-Royal, Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve, Le Sud-Ouest and Ville-Marie.
Is someone’s health or safety compromised? Have you witnessed a crime or violent behaviour? Call 911 for immediate response.
Cleanliness and maintenance of public places
Do you notice a cleanliness problem, benches or facilities that need to be repaired? Contact 311 or use our app.
Camping and makeshift shelters
The city considers that urban camps are not a viable, safe or sustainable solution, in particular for reasons of safety of the occupants and that of the surrounding residents. Response is gradual and humane.
Concerned about a makeshift camp or shelter? Contact 311.
City commitments
Montréal’s Solidarity, Equity and Inclusion Plan 2021-2025 includes several actions to combat homelessness and promote the inclusion of our most vulnerable clientele.
