These modular housing units with support resources aim to provide a safe, dignified place to live for people transitioning out of homelessness while they are awaiting permanent housing. The two current sites are located in Ahuntsic-Cartierville and Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce.

Outremont is being considered for an additional project site.

Characteristics of the modular housing units

Each site will accommodate a maximum of 30 people at a time, giving them somewhere to live until they find permanent housing.

Each site includes:

  • Furnished single and double rooms
  • An accessible room for people with reduced mobility
  • Furnished common areas: kitchen, living room, dining room, laundry facilities and washrooms

Support from a community organization

Residents will receive support from psychosocial workers to facilitate their social and economic reintegration, and the sharing of public spaces.

Locations

These modular housing units will complement existing temporary shelter and support resources for homeless persons.

The three sites meet several key criteria, including access to public services and proximity to public transit.

Social cohabitation and good neighbour committee

Montréal and its partners invite you to share your ideas for social cohabitation on the Réalisons MTL platform.

A Good Neighbor Committee will also be set up in fall 2025. It will provide a forum for local people to reflect on ways of improving social cohabitation, and to propose courses of action relating to the implementation of modular housing units with support resources.

To express your interest in taking part in this committee, please fill in this form (in French).

We will reach out to those who are interested by the end of September.

Next steps

Montréal and its partners are doing their utmost to encourage a healthy sharing of public space.

Summer: the city will analyze all the comments received as part of this project, in order to facilitate harmonious integration of the project into the community.

Autumn: the city will hold a meeting to inform the population of the Outremont borough of the project’s progress.

This project is being carried out in collaboration with the Québec government.
