Each borough may form a planning advisory committee (or CCU) for its territory.

Composition

CCUs are made up of elected officials and borough residents. Knowledge of urban planning, architecture or land use planning is an asset for committee members. The number of members, the selection process and the length of the term vary according to the borough.

Functions

Committee members analyze various elements related to project applications, such as:

• Renovation or transformation of heritage buildings
• Demolition
• Construction or expansion in areas of special concern
• Minor exemptions
• Signage
• Conditional use
• Exemption to convert a building into a divided co-ownership
• Approval through an architectural integration and implementation plan (AIIP)
• Special construction, modification or occupancy project (PPCMOI)

CCUs may also consider zoning amendment applications, major urban planning policies, and land use planning issues.
