The Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro is planning the redevelopment of boulevard Lalande, between rue Saraguay Est and rue Colonial, to improve road safety and adapt the area to climate change.

The work is deemed necessary because of major safety issues caused by motor vehicle traffic on this boulevard, which is also used by many cyclists and pedestrians. The Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro notably plans to make it a one-way street between rue Saraguay Est and rue Colonial.

Since boulevard Lalande borders the rivière des Prairies, the road redevelopment project will have to meet new environmental requirements for riparian landscaping. These spaces must remain natural and maintenance-free. As the Promenade Lalande park is a grassed area, the Borough will notably have to renaturalize it by proposing native plants of various strata (trees, shrubs and perennials), in order to protect these sensitive natural environments and comply with current ministerial regulations. A specialized firm is assisting the Borough in planning this new redevelopment, which will meet both environmental requirements and the Borough’s vision for the greening of its riverbanks.

Presented at an information evening on April 12, 2023, the new development concept takes into account the impacts on all commuters in terms of safety, accessibility to the area, through-traffic, peace of mind for residents and accessibility for people attending nearby schools.

When?

The boulevard Lalande redevelopment project will start in 2025 at the earliest. This project requires prior authorization from the Ministry of the Environment because of the nearby riparian buffer strip.
