Saint-Laurent’s Patrouille urbaine
Arrondissement de Saint-Laurent relies on the Patrouille urbaine, a team of experienced inspectors, to provide a variety of services.
Reachable at 311 at all times, the Patrouille urbaine’s mission is based on four main pillars:
- Enforcing bylaws
- Assisting residents
- Preventive patrolling
- Supporting emergency services in the event of a disaster
Enforced bylaws include the following:
- Occupying public property: Validation of permits and the conformity of installations on public property during construction or other situations
- Water use: Ensuring that the use of water (filling private pools, washing vehicles, driveways and outdoor surfaces) is done properly and during permitted periods
- Distribution of certain shopping bags: Distribution of bags that are not made of conventional, oxo-degradable or biodegradable plastics in stores
- Bylaw concerning domestic animals: Regulation governing the keeping and presence of domestic animals on the territory
- Snow removal: Bylaw governing snow removal on private property and related snow management
Patrouille urbaine team members are available at all times to help residents find solutions to various issues. Though they may not be able to respond to every situation, they are in direct contact with various stakeholders who can (SPVM, SIM, foremen and women, etc.)
Patrouille urbaine team members are on the ground at all times, covering Saint-Laurent as a whole and thus playing a preventive role in the community.
In the event of a disaster, emergency service teams may call on the Patrouille urbaine to assist them. However, inspectors are not in a position to intervene directly or provide first aid. It is therefore important to always call emergency services before the Patrouille urbaine in such situations.
