Find out more about terms and conditions when applying for a pet license.

The terms and conditions set out your rights and responsibilities and govern the purchase transaction when you apply online for the following services:

  • Cat license

  • Dog license

  • Dog walker’s license

By using these services, you are conducting a transaction with Montréal (hereafter referred to as “the city”). You acknowledge and agree to these terms and conditions, and accept them expressly.

My Account

In order to use the city’s online services, you must create an account on montreal.ca. It will be used to identify you and handle your application securely.

Applicable fees

The fee shown for applying for a permit online is the fee for issuing the permit. You must pay your invoice in order for your application to be processed. Once you have paid, you will receive a payment confirmation by e-mail.

After your file has been analyzed, you will receive another e-mail with your permit.

All prices are in Canadian dollars (CAD). If services are taxable, taxes are added to the total amount payable and are shown on the bill.

Credit cards

Only payment by credit card (Visa and MasterCard) is accepted. Once you have entered your payment information and the transaction has been accepted, the amount will be charged to your credit card. You will receive a transaction confirmation with a reference number by e-mail.

Please note that the financial institution is the online payment operator, not the city. When you submit your payment information, it is sent directly to the financial institution and does not pass through city servers.

Purchase transactions are made through a secure system that uses the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol to encrypt data and transport it securely through the network.

Reimbursement

You can only request a refund if the city has not begun processing your application. To request a refund, contact the Accès Montréal office in your borough. The refund is made by cancelling the transaction on your credit card account. This may take between 3 and 7 days.

General

During an online purchase, the city cannot be held responsible for damages resulting from use of the Internet, particularly data loss, viruses, service interruptions or other issues.

By accepting the terms and conditions for online transactions, you agree to the city contacting you by e-mail to keep you informed of the status of your application in accordance with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CSAL).

In the case of discrepancies between the versions of these terms and conditions, the French version prevails.
