New dog exercise area inaugurated at Victor-P.-Gray Park in Pierrefonds-Roxboro
The Borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro is pleased to celebrate the official opening of a brand-new dog park in Victor-P.-Gray Park. Discover this newly designed area with your favourite best friend!
Pierrefonds-Roxboro’s four-legged companions now have access to a space entirely dedicated to them. This new site allows dogs to play in complete freedom, while remaining under their owner’s supervision.
Located on 18th Avenue, in the eastern part of the borough, this canine exercise area offers a secure space that promotes the well-being of dogs. Fenced and lit, the site features a pathway accessible to the mobility-impaired, a drinking fountain and park furniture, making it a pleasant place for residents to visit.
This project represents a total investment of approximately $500,000 from the Borough’s Ten-Year Capital Expenditure Plan. A dog park is the only place in Montreal where you can let your dog run off-leash, subject to certain rules.
‘’This project not only reflects a desire expressed by our community to have safe neighborhood spaces dedicated to dogs and their owners, but it also testifies to our desire to create inclusive living environments where socialisation and collective well-being are encouraged. A dog park like this one enables local people to get to know each other, exchange advice and develop their skills as dog owners. Above all, it gives dogs a chance to exercise, which can reduce aggression towards humans or other dogs.”
A reminder of best practices
The Règlement sur l’encadrement des animaux domestiques establishes rules of conduct and good citizenship to ensure the safety of citizens and promote cohabitation with animals.
- Dog exercise area gates must remain closed at all times and the dog’s owner must keep the animal on a leash until it is inside the exercise area.
- All dogs must wear a tag indicating that a pet license valid for the current year has been issued.
- It is highly recommended that all dogs using the site be vaccinated.
- The owner must pick up after their dog and dispose of excrement hygienically in nearby bins.
- Owners must restrict the use of toys to times when they are alone with their dogs in the dog area, as toys can provoke competition and aggression in the presence of other dogs.
- Dangerous or sick dogs, as well as females in heat, are not allowed in the dog exercise area.
- The dog park is not recommended for children aged 12 and under.
