Description

Fostering economic growth along with environmental resilience

This call for projects aims to stimulate climate-friendly, circular entrepreneurship.

It is intended for nonprofit organizations (NPOs) wishing to support businesses as they develop and adopt innovative solutions (technologies, products or services).

Projects will be required to have positive impacts on the environment in our metropolis.

A budget of $1.2 M for 2 years is allocated to this program. The city will help support major, structuring projects.

Climate solutions

Reducing environmental impacts, namely by:

  • Reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions
  • Adapting to the impacts of climate change
  • Protecting and restoring ecosystems
  • Collecting and storing carbon
Circular solutions

Promoting approaches to manufacturing and consumption that entail the sustainable use of resources, namely through:

  • Reuse and repair
  • Recycling and valorization of materials
  • Ecodesign for sustainable products
  • Innovative business models to support a circular economy

Goals

Innovating for a greener, more sustainable economy

Through this call for projects, the city aims to promote the creation of new projects or the improvement of existing ones.

Goal: to create a critical mass of organizations that offer and adopt innovative solutions in order to accelerate the ecological transition of Montréal’s economy.

Projects must meet at least one of the 2 following objectives:

  • Support the commercialization and bringing to scale of climate-friendly, circular solutions.
  • Address climate issues faced by businesses by facilitating the development and integration of these solutions.

They must also:

  • Demonstrate that they are not duplicating existing initiatives
  • Generate actual added value
  • Aim to reach a large number of businesses or organizations
  • Maximize the lever effect of municipal support

Expected benefits

Projects will have to generate tangible, measurable impacts for businesses with respect to the ecological transition of the metropolis.

Examples of indicators

  • Local or international sales
  • Number of solutions developed, tested or integrated
  • Workforce growth
  • Tons of materials avoided or diverted from burial
  • Tons of GHG emissions avoided

Financial support

The support allocated may cover up to 75% of the total project cost.

Eligibility

To present a project, the organization must meet the following criteria:

  • Have been a legally constituted NPO for at least the past two years
  • Have headquarters established on the island of Montréal, or carry out the majority of its activities in Montréal
  • Provide products or services mainly to Montreal businesses
  • Carry out a mission that is in line with the objectives of the call for projects
  • Engage in sound financial and governance practices

Calendar

Project applications: latest by June 5, 2025 at 1 p.m.

Beginning of projects: September, 2025

Maximum project duration: 2 years

A 4 to 6 week period is planned between the end pf the call for projects and the announcement of the projects selected to be submitted for municipal approval.

Submit a project

Documents required

  • Completed project application (available by clicking on “Submit” below).
  • Detailed budget (Example provided by the city (in French)).
  • Summary of planned objectives and actions (example provided by the city (in French): fill out both tabs.
  • Letters patent or constitution if the organization is a trust.
  • List of governing board members and of individuals assigned to the project, along with their respective roles (example provided by the city (in French).
  • Governing board resolution authorizing the applicant to submit the application.
  • The general regulations of the organization.
  • The financial statements of the past year, as approved by the governing board or at a general assembly.
  • Letters of agreement with contributing partners (where applicable).
  • Certificate or proof of francization (where applicable)
  • Optional: project presentation document, or any other document deemed pertinent.
