Training Pathway

  1. Bronze Medal

Course length: 25 hours

Prerequisite: Minimum age 13 and completion of Swim Level 9 (or equivalent swimming ability).

The Bronze Medal Award of the Lifesaving Society challenges candidates both mentally and physically. Judgment, knowledge, skill, and fitness — the four pillars of lifesaving — form the foundation of this training.

  1. Bronze Cross

Course length: 30 hours

Prerequisite: Successful completion of the Bronze Medal course.

The Bronze Cross Award of the Lifesaving Society begins the transition from lifesaving to lifeguarding. It prepares candidates for the responsibilities they will assume as assistant lifeguards.

  1. Standard First Aid with AED

Course length: 16 hours

Prerequisite: None

The Lifesaving Society’s Standard First Aid with AED course is a comprehensive 16‑hour program. It covers not only basic first aid but also advanced care for secondary emergency situations, including the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED).

  1. National Lifeguard – Pool Option

Course length: 40 hours

Prerequisite: Minimum age 15, successful completion of Bronze Cross and Standard First Aid.

The National Lifeguard – Pool certification of the Lifesaving Society develops the values, judgment, knowledge, skills, and fitness required to become a professional lifeguard.
