• An advisory will be issued to let you know when the situation returns to normal. You must wait for this advisory before drinking tap water.
Tips
• Boil tap water for at least 1 minute before consuming or use bottled water for:
- drinking
- preparing bottles and food for babies
- rinsing and preparing food that will be eaten raw (fruit, vegetables, etc.)
- prepare food that does not require prolonged cooking (canned soup, dessert, etc.)
- prepare ice cubes
- brushing your teeth and rinsing your mouth
- giving your pets drinking water.
• Throw away ice cubes, drinks and food that were prepared with unboiled tap water.
• Use unboiled tap water for:
- washing dishes in hot water, making sure to dry them well
- washing clothes
- taking a shower or bath (make sure that young children don't swallow water, or wash them with a washcloth).
• Boil water even if you have a home filtering device for your drinking water, as it will not eliminate micro-organisms that could affect your health.
• Schools, businesses and institutions must shut off water fountains and advise the public that water is not fit for consumption. They must also list places where drinking water is available.
