Very popular with amateur Saint-Laurent artists for more than 20 years, the cultural workshops of the Center des loisirs have for many taken a virtual turn in order to allow participants to continue their learning during the fall.

This change required a great deal of adaptation from everyone since, as the participants testified, the approach and experience of the virtual artistic process are different from a workshop practice. With patience and will, the experience turned out to be very successful. The specialists found encouraging solutions to ensure the continuity of the learning of amateur artists: demonstrations organized on Zoom, material prepared and personally provided to participants, calls and home visits, etc.

For many, these virtual meetings were a way to break the isolation by allowing them to stay connected with others and by establishing a pleasant routine during the period of confinement.

Under the supervision of seven specialists, some 40 participants practiced by video conference the following disciplines: watercolor, quilting, cake decorating, observational drawing, icon, egg tempera, live model, oil painting and contemporary painting.

Replacing the usual exhibitions at the Center des loisirs that close the sessions, the unveiling of the works produced is the subject of a virtual exhibition presented here. Just click on the image below and then use the arrows to admire the works.

In light of the success of this initiative, virtual cultural workshops for all will be offered again during the winter session. Other disciplines will be added such as embroidery, pottery and stained glass. Registration will begin on December 7th.

Confined at home due to sanitary measures, Monday afternoons allow me to socialize with my colleagues and keep my drawing skills. Thanks to the still passionate specialist Svetla, the sessions are very dynamic and satisfying. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to continue the courses in virtual mode.

After familiarizing myself with this new technology (Zoom), it is a nice compromise to be able to participate in virtual watercolor workshops because the specialist Valérie always has good advice to help us evolve in this art but … can never replace a real presence in the workshops.

As a vital worker in the world of education, the online watercolor lessons have allowed me to relax and forget about the current situation while developing my artistic side.
