Digital artwork in the public space: 10 creations to see in videos

This summer, digital artwork was presented in public spaces throughout the city. Were you unable to go see them? Now, these videos offer a chance to enjoy them and learn about the multidisciplinary artists behind these innovative creations.

Duo - Multimedia installation by Virginie Brunelle and Hub studio

The work is made up of two LED screens facing each other. They present a choreography of two dancers. The technology and the presence of the public strolling between the installations allow the dancers’ movements to complement each other while also connecting with the public.

Façade - Video installation by Collectif façade and Hub studio 

Building windows serve as screens on which are projected images that highlight public personalities with caricaturing make-up.

La drôle de chasse au trésor des Mamizelles - Interactive journey by Toxique trottoir, Rümker, Nicholas Timm and Stef et Marie

An interactive scavenger hunt on bicycles, in which families are invited to discover a secret location in nine public spaces in Rosemont–La Petite-Patrie and Villeray.

La station de l’avenir - A movable kiosk for digital creation and projections, by mapp_mtl, gentilhomme and Robocut studio 

During the day, young and old were invited to use an app to draw their vision of the future. In the evening, their illustrations were projected on buildings in the neighbourhood.

Les Essentiels - Interactive sculptures by Laurence Philomène and Massivart

Through the use of QR codes attached to eight sculptures, people can meet certain individuals who, each in their own way, have played a key role during the pandemic.

Les Sanfaçon - Interactive installation by Sacha Pérez del solar and La boîte interactive

Les Sanfaçon are surrealistic people illustrated on sculptures. They interact with passersby thanks to a detection system integrated in each structure.

Les Sublimes ou L’enfance de l’art - Video projection by Studio Lex and Adèle Blais

Through animation of paintings, this installation evokes the childhood of women who made a mark on history. The artist hopes these projections will lead members of the public to think about the impact of their own childhood on their life.

L’Hexaphone - Multimedia installation by Troublemakers[1], Hub studio, Jorane, Kids from the underground and Thaïs

The public watches the creation of a song, as if in a studio. Separate stations allow the instruments of each musician, as well as the singer’s voice, to be heard separately.

Moon - Digital installation by Version dix, groupe Jobel, Lucion and Gabriela Jovian Mazon

The public regains contact with nature during a trip inside a tree. A woman dances a choreography projected onto a sphere that springs to life at sunset.

Pichiavo Remix - Wall projection mural and mapping by Mural, Pichiavo, Baillat studio and mapp_mtl

A video and lasers were added to a well-known mural located on boulevard Saint-Laurent, not far from ¨Prince-Arthur Est, lending it an additional and unexpected dimension.

These artworks were a result of the Voies actives sécuritaires cultural programming, funded through the Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal, concluded by Montréal and the Québec government.
