From June 21 to September 2, the Livres dans la rue program will travel to more than 100 parks to share the joys of reading with children ages 2 to 12.
Nurture a passion for reading
Every Monday to Thursday afternoon all summer long, facilitators carrying backpacks loaded with books are visiting Montréal parks to share their favourite finds with kids.
This playful activity focuses on having fun. It is stimulating but the atmosphere is relaxed. Everyone is free to participate. The facilitators adapt to the needs and tastes of the children they meet.
Be on the lookout for these book guides in a park near you! If you see one of them while taking a walk with your family, be sure to check out what they have to offer.
Since 1982, Livres dans la rue, run by the Bibliothèques de Montréal, has been meeting with young people where they live and hang out. You can find them in parks, alleys, courtyards next to social housing projects, community organizations and many other places. This program helps children discover the joy of reading, a skill that is key to success at school.
