The Mont-Royal heritage site is a protected area that houses Mont-Royal Park, cemeteries, institutions, residential neighborhoods and some of the largest green spaces on the island, which are privileged witnesses to history of Montreal.

Mount Royal Protection and Enhancement Plan

The Mount Royal Protection and Enhancement Plan contains three objectives. They are based on the goals established by the 1992 Plan de mise en valeur du mont Royal and the Montréal urban master plans of 1992 and 2004. They were developed in light of efforts by the Table de concertation du Mont-Royal, and texts contained in a variety of policy statements adopted during the last few years that are related to the mountain. The objectives are to:

  • Protect and enhance Mount Royal
  • Make the Mountain an accessible and welcoming place
  • Create the appropriate conditions to protect and enhance Mount Royal

The Mount Royal Protection and Enhancement Plan also established an implementation framework to ensure these objectives are realized.

The official Mount Royal website

The site (in French), coordinated by the Bureau du Mont-Royal, contains a great deal of useful information and documents for downloading, such as maps, archival phots, a detailed history, an inventory of the mountain’s built and natural heritage, and the Atlas du paysage du mont Royal.

You can also find suggestions for walking tours, covering landscapes, art and heritage. Detailed maps based on the artistic and architectural inventories of the district are also provided.
