New Lachine waterfront park will provide much better access to the water
Do you enjoy non-motorized water sports? Lachine’s new waterfront park will be a great place for just that. You will also discover other reasons to visit the park, as new year-round programming becomes available.
Stabilizing the riverbanks to enable improvements
Environmental studies are underway to obtain the necessary permissions to redevelop the riverbanks. Any work carried out on the shorelines must be approved by both provincial and federal governments, which are responsible for protecting natural environments. Construction of the project is scheduled to start in 2026, once the necessary certificates have been obtained.
Environmental and landscape protection will be a key ingredient of the project. The plan is to create a wetland and wildlife habitats, and plant lots of trees and other vegetation.
Situated on 2 bays protected from winds and currents, the park has an ideal location. Its new facilities will be designed to offer 4-season programming.
Site preparation works
Over the next few years, teams will be dismantling buildings, infrastructure and marina facilities that have outlived their usefulness.
Steps taken:
Maintaining the vocation of the former marina reception and service pavilion by building a new sewer system and rebuilding a drinking water main
Removal of docks and walkways
This environmental restoration project is part of Montreal’s strategy to combat and adapt to climate change.
