On the border of the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and Sud-Ouest boroughs, three zones will be transformed and amalgamated to create thenewParc-nature de l’Écoterritoire de la falaise.

Three existing zones will be converted and connected under this ambitious project:

1 - The Turcot Yards

2 - The ridge, located between rue Saint-Jacques and the escarpment

3 - The escarpment, including the greenway

The reconstruction of the Turcot interchange frees up space for the transformation of these paved and artificial surfaces. Including the enhancement of the forested area of the Saint-Jacques Escarpment and the ecological restoration of the Turcot Yards, more than 60 hectares of natural space will be returned to the public.

In June 2025, Montréal released its Stratégie de mise en valeur du Parc-nature de l’Écoterritoire de la falaise (Parc-nature de l’Écoterritoire de la falaise development strategy), bringing us one step closer to the creation of this unique green space.

IMPORTANT NOTICE - Public access to the escarpment is currently prohibited by the city, with the exception of the greenway. This decision was made following a risk analysis after a landslide caused by heavy rain in August 2024.

What is a development strategy?

This document provides the city with a guide for developing the park. The strategy helps inform all decisions and actions, ensuring a coherent project. It acts as a compass, making sure we stay on track.

With this strategy, Montréal is reaffirming its goal to create a new, high-quality nature park that will benefit both its citizens and the natural environment.

Real benefits

The future park will help make Montréal a greener city, improving quality of life while also supporting biodiversity.

This new green space will protect urban biodiversity with its forested areas, meadows, and basin. Once completed, this project will have many benefits:

  • Natural areas where biodiversity is prioritized;
  • Public access to nature within the city;
  • Enhanced active mobility (biking and walking) with a bridge linking the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and Sud-Ouest boroughs.

Les étapes à venir en 2025

  • Demolishing buildings on rue Saint-Jacques is the first step to increasing the area of the park.
  • Starting the conceptual study of the bridge that will promote active mobility between the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâces and Sud-Ouest boroughs.
  • Fleshing out the Conservation plan based on the updated ecological audits.
  • Developing partnerships.
