From cinematic jewel to civic icon: the story of the Empress Theatre

Date
to

The Empress Theatre, with its unique Egyptian style, has marked the NDG landscape since 1928. Here’s your chance to discover the history of this incredible building.

Description

Cinema, controversial cabaret, then repertory cinema, it has undergone many metamorphoses. Closed since a fire in 1992, it remains at the heart of citizen struggles for its rebirth. A reflection of the neighborhood’s evolution, the Empress stands not only as a building, but also as a powerful symbol of community identity, cultural memory and the stubborn fight to preserve shared spaces.
