Apply for an extension to replace an air conditioning or cooling unit that uses drinking water

Do you have an air conditioning or cooling unit that uses drinking water? With some exceptions, these units were supposed to be replaced before January 1, 2018. Here’s how to apply for an extension in cases where this is allowed.

You may apply for an extension to December 31, 2022, for the replacement of an air-conditioning or cooling unit, if you are the owner of a residential building and can demonstrate that it would cost more than $10,000 to replace your air conditioning unit.

 You may not apply for an extension if you are the owner of an industrial, commercial, or institutional building.
