Build or replace an outdoor staircase

Would you like to build a new outdoor staircase? Would you like to repair or replace your staircase? First, you need to check your borough’s legislation, and in some cases, you will need a permit.

In all of Montréal’s boroughs, you must comply with security and architectural integrity standards to build or replace an outdoor staircase.

Some areas and properties are also subject to particular standards to preserve the neighbourhood’s historic, architectural or landscaping value. Additional documentation, such as a Site Planning and Architectural Integration Plan (SPAIP), may be required.
