Identification pole

Snow removal contractors must install at least one identification pole on the private property where they are performing snow removal work. 

This post must:

• indicate the contractor’s name and phone number and be visible from the outside at all times
• be made of wood and measure no more than 2.5 cm by 5 cm
• be installed only between November 1 and April 15.

Required document

• Registration certificat of each road vehicle associated with the licence application

Contractors who want to offer snow clearing services on private property must get a permit.

Rules for entrepreneurs

When clearing snow from driveways and private parking lots, you must:

• Leave a snow bank height of 2 m or less at the curb.
• Clear snow before the snowblower passes by
• Push snow 6 m or more from an intersection
• Leave a snow bank height of 2 m or less at the curb.

It is prohibited to:

• Cover a fire hydrant with snow
• Block a street
• Push snow across a street
• Clear snow from sidewalks, bike paths or city parks

Validity

Permits are valid from November 1 to April 15 of the next year. It is renewable each year.

In person

Validity

Permits are annual and valid from November 1 to April 30 of the following year.

Permits are non-transferable and becomes invalid as soon as ownership of the vehicle is transferred to a third party.

Taxes not included

• $112.50 (including road vehicle registration)
• $10.90 per additional vehicle

• A copy of the charter
• A copy of all vehicle registrations
• Proof of liability insurance
• A list of identified customers or poles.

If a document is missing, the permit cannot be issued.

This permit is required for all individuals and companies who remove snow using a road vehicle on private property. 

Steps

• Complete the form below and e-mail it to the permit counter along with all required documents.
• Our staff will contact you once your application has been processed.
• Visit the permit counter with your documents to pay for your permit and pick it up.

Validity

• Permits are valid from June 1 to May 31 of the following year. 
• A request for review must be submitted for any change to information provided. An updated permit must be issued before snow removal work can resume.
