Reading time: 2 min

The Express Bike Network (EBN) development project is continuing along Rue Saint-Antoine and Rue Saint-Jacques between Rue Guy and Rue De Courcelle. Protected one-way bike paths that are accessible year-round will be added. Other paths will be improved over a span of 5.3 kilometres.

Everything you need to know about the project

When

  • Start of work: Fall 2022
  • End of work operations: 2026

Where

On Rue Saint-Antoine and Rue Saint-Jacques between Rue Guy and Rue De Courcelle

What

  • One-way bike paths: Westbound on Rue Saint-Antoine and eastbound on Rue Saint-Jacques
  • Wide enough to permit passing
  • New asphalt paving as required to provide a comfortable cycling surface
  • Adding trees and plants at certain intersections

Traffic and car parking

  • 2 traffic lanes open over the entire project
  • Parking maintained on one side of the street over most of the planned route, with the exception of the portion of Rue Saint-Antoine between Rue du Couvent and Rue De Courcelle

Why

The EBN facilitates safe bicycle travel thanks to:

  • The creation of a buffer zone between the bike path and the parking lane
  • Protective concrete structures at intersections
  • The addition of advanced stop lines (green zones for cyclists) at intersections.
  • Adjusted programming of traffic lights

The EBN will provide easier access to:

  • Parks, schools, childcare and daycare centres
  • Arts and recreation facilities, including the Centre Saint-Henri, Galerie Bradley Ertaskiran and the Musée des ondes Emile-Berliner
  • Metro stations: Georges-Vanier, Lionel-Groulx and Place Saint-Henri

In its final iteration, the EBN corridor will have a connection to downtown.

Integrated multi-project work sites

The city is taking advantage of the infrastructure work being carried out underground and on the surface in the area to complete this section of the EBN and redevelop local streets. This prevents the need to return to the same place several times for different construction projects and minimizes the associated impacts.
