Often, the holiday season is synonymous with overconsumption. With gifts, receptions and outings that multiply during this period, we invite you to adopt eco-responsible gestures to reduce your ecological footprint.

Here are some simple ideas for eco-responsible holidays:

Gifts

  • Promote local shopping for your gifts to encourage local economy and reduce transportation.
  • Make purchases in companies with a social or solidarity vocation.
  • Offer “homemade” gift certificates to your loved ones and your family: an evening of babysitting, a day outdoors, etc.
  • Reuse the contents of your recycling bin (wrapping paper or any other type of paper, boxes, ribbons, jars, etc.) to wrap your gifts. Let your creativity run free!

Decoration and reception

  • Choose a natural tree and give it a second life during the municipal Christmas tree collection.
  • Make your decorations by reusing various objects such as natural tree branches.
  • For the meal, use real tableware rather than single-use plastic dishes.
  • Reduce food waste by evaluating the right amount according to the number of diners. Offer plates to take away for your guests.

    Outings

    • Use public transit when possible.
    • Opt for electric car transport services, for an ecological and safe return home.

      Energy

      • Promote LED Christmas bulbs and the use of timers.
