Environment: Awareness squads in action

Every spring, every summer, the green and blue patrols travel across the city to raise awareness of environmental issues. Easily recognizable by their green or blue polo shirts, the squads encourage the public to take actions to protect the environment.

The squads, made up of about 100 students, cover topics related to the environment: 

  • Management of residual materials and reduction at source 
  • Promotion and protection of the urban forest
  • Sustainable drinking water management 
  • Sustainable rainwater management
  • Climate change, heat wave impacts, and community resilience

The Green Patrol

Patrol officers distribute flyers and answer your questions in streets and parks and at various community locations and events. They also broach the subject of resilience in connection with climate change and the ecological transition, which are an integral part of the Montréal 2030 vision.

The Blue Patrol

Patrollers walk through Montréal neighbourhoods and can answer your questions about stormwater management. They also list the types of exterior gutter installations to help the city calculate the volume of stormwater being directed toward the sewer system.

The Blue Patrollers also participate in shower head exchange days organized by the éco-quartiers, to help people save water.
