Organic waste collection is now offered in buildings of 9 dwellings or more as well as in institutions, businesses and industrial firms in all sectors of Lachine.

Organic waste collection has long been available for homes and small buildings in Lachine, and since November 2023 for buildings in sector 1 as well. Since November 2024, all institutions, businesses, industrial firms and buildings in Lachine have been invited to participate in this collection, which is carried out every Thursday

Do you have your brown bin?

Arrondissement de Lachine called on the Éco-quartier de Lachine (GRAME) team to support the implementation of these collections in Lachine buildings. Countertop bins, compostable bags and information on collection procedures were distributed to buildings whose managers were ready to receive the collection.

Compost collection still not available in your building?

  • Talk to your building manager.
  • Contact the Éco-quartier team to find out more about the steps taken in your building and, if necessary, to help them contact building managers.

Objective: zero waste

Your weekly efforts will help keep many non-waste materials out of landfills. Food waste doesn’t decompose when it’s landfilled, because it has no oxygen. It therefore pollutes our soil and emits methane, a powerful greenhouse gas.

Are you a manager?

Offering an organic waste collection service to residents of buildings with 9 or more housing units is an important way of reducing our environmental impact. With this new collection, the quantity of household waste produced then decreases, resulting in fewer black bins, as their contents are distributed with the brown bins. If you haven’t yet been contacted by GRAME, you can reach them at 438 385-9418 or by email at compost@grame.org.

Did you know?

According to Ville de Montréal’s bylaw 16-04 (Règlement sur les services de collecte), it is prohibited to place food waste in household garbage.
