Artist’s biography

Emmanuel Nwogbo is a Nigerian-Canadian visual artist based in Montreal. He grew up in Lagos, where the rich culture and vibrant energy exposed him to the arts at an early age, influenced by afrobeat musicians like Fela Kuti and Lagbaja. His fascination with pop culture led him to study Visual Art and Communication Design, and later, a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Design at NSCAD University. Emmanuel’s digital collages are influenced by 20th-century art movements like Pop art, Surrealism, and Dada. In 2019, he won The Coast’s Best of Halifax Reader’s Choice Award for his “365 Days of James Bond Characters” series. His recent works challenge preconceived biases and stereotypes about Nigerian culture.
