Ninan Auassat : Nous, les enfants
More than a captivating documentary, this film a call to action, at a time when Indigenous youth are demanding the right to be recognized and a chance to blossom.
Description
Known for her intimate and riveting films, director Kim O’Bomsawin now invites us to discover the vibrant universe of Ninan Auassat: We, the Children, an immersive documentary celebrating the strength and vitality of Indigenous youth.
Shot over more than six years, this film follows the moving stories of three groups of children from different nations (Atikamekw, Eeyou Cree and Innu).
Through their authentic stories and the experiences they share, we delve into their dreams, questions and hopes. By following these young people through the crucial milestones of childhood, right up to the threshold of adulthood, we witness their daily lives and aspirations, along with the challenges they face.
Ninan Auassat: We, the Children transcends cultural barriers by offering an innovative contemporary vision of Indigenous youth, highlighting the strength of their courage and authenticity. Filmed with delicate sensitivity at “a child’s eye view,” this documentary offers a deeply human perspective that encourages listening and mutual understanding.
The result is strikingly powerful: the voices of adults and “youth experts” are completely absent, holding space for a new generation. The documentary makes a bold cinematic statement, revealing the new generation’s burning desire to be heard. As the voices of young people echo, demanding the right to be recognized and a chance to thrive, this journey becomes a call to action.
