Request an inspection visit after a sewer backup incident
The city may offer an inspection visit to help you reduce the risks of property damage in case of sewer backup or flooding. If you have filed a claim with the city, your inspection request will be prioritized. Otherwise, you may register for the waiting list.
Who can request an inspection?
Below are the cases eligible for an inspection:
If you filed a claim with the city following a sewer back-up or flood
If you had a sewer back-up or flood in your home
- If you live in an area that is prone to flooding
Which requests are prioritized?
If you have filed a claim with the city for a sewer back-up or flood, you are automatically listed to have a compliance inspection carried out on your building.
You will receive a letter proposing that you contact us to set a date for the visit. You must call or email us, as explained in the letter, to take an appointment.
If you do not respond to the invitation, you will receive a reminder letter within two to four weeks following the initial letter. Processing times may be longer if there are too many claims.
What services are offered as part of the inspection?
- Inspection at your home
- Personalized report summarizing the work required to rectify the situation, more specifically based on the configuration of your property or plumbing.
- Referral to partners, such as the borough, for authorizations or specific work on built assets, for a garage, outdoor developments or structural work, as well as for subsidies.
- Second inspection visit to check the compliance of the corrective work completed. The inspector will set the date with you upon receipt of the certificate of conformity to be signed by a contractor licensed by the Corporation des maîtres mécaniciens en tuyauterie du Québec (CMMTQ) and sent by e-mail.
The city does not carry out corrective work, such as the installation of a waterproof door, or changes to a garage or basement areaway.
How can you be added to the waiting list?
If you have not filed a claim with the city following a sewer back-up or flood or if your property is in an area that is vulnerable to floods, contact us to be added to the waiting list for a free inspection.
Please note that waiting times are unpredictable and may be of several months. Depending on priorities, needs and resources, some owners may be contacted if other inspections are planned in their vicinity.
