Saint-Laurent’s Strategic Plan for 2024 is showing excellent annual results: find out how priority projects are progressing, with a few highlights.

Out of all the projects planned for 2024, 95% of the 133 projects selected have been either completed or on track for completion.

More precisely, 105 have been successfully completed, 20 projects are under way, with progress expected in the coming months, and 8 have been postponed.

Among the projects completed, the following initiatives represent a few examples aimed at fostering the creation of an inclusive living environment, improving the urban fabric and sustainable mobility, and supporting a responsible economy:

  • By-law amendment for bird protection intended to reduce the risks of collisions with glass panes in new buildings

In June, Council adopted new criteria for designing buildings and landscaping to protect birds, particularly near natural environments. This by-law amendment was backed by an awareness campaign that will continue on in 2025.

  • Roll-out of the organic waste collection in buildings with 61-100 apartments

Last fall, 5612 new addresses received brown bins. During a door-to-door campaign, residents were also given a countertop bin and an explanatory leaflet.

  • New by-law provisions to limit light pollution

Adopted in October, this measure applicable to industrial, commercial and institutional establishments aims to protect ecosystems, increase road safety, promote public health and improve energy efficiency.

  • Improvements to safety around schools

Over $1.5 million was invested last year with Ville de Montréal to improve safety when getting around Saint-Laurent, especially near schools. This included the construction of eight curb extensions, the installation of 30 speed humps and raising three crosswalks and two intersections.

  • Holding participatory workshops for the accessible, inclusive and safe redevelopment of the Bibliothèque du Boisé’s outdoor spaces

All in all, some 80 people, including children, had the opportunity to express their views on the accessibility, inclusiveness and safety of these spaces. The information gathered will be used in designing and building multi-purpose spaces behind the library.

  • Unveiling of a mural celebrating living together to highlight the borough’s wealth of culture and history

Located at 1 boulevard de la Côte-Vertu, the mural, entitled Courtepointe, and created by Cyrielle Tremblay, stemmed from a project funded under the Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal between Ville de Montréal and the Government of Québec.

Projects for 2025

This year marks the final phase of the 2022-2025 strategic plan. Some projects are still underway and will be completed in the coming months.

Our teams are also already working on the next strategic plan, which will be just as ambitious as the previous one, always with the well-being of the population at heart.

Saint-Laurent will shortly be unveiling new projects that will bring people together and benefit the community.
