The historic building at 13 avenue Strathyre will be partially demolished and enlarged. Renovation work will be over a period of approximately 18 months, from summer 2024 to fall 2025.

The building, listed under the Cultural Heritage Act, has been vacant for a number of years. The restoration and expansion project will make it possible to house various associations.

Upcoming projects

The building will be partially demolished and then expanded. Restoration and rehabilitation work will be carried out, as will the complete interior and exterior redevelopment of the building. In addition, decontamination work will be carried out in accordance with current standards. The site will be secured and protected accordingly. The parking lot will be inaccessible for the duration of the work.

Back to the initial project

In 2021, work on the conversion of the former City Hall had to be interrupted due to major problems. As a result, the various parties involved in the project, including the Conseil du patrimoine de Montréal (CPM), evaluated all possible avenues in order to propose a revised project. With the continued objective of ensuring that the renovation and restoration work would give the building back its features of 1953, when its civic character was confirmed, the proposed new project finally received the favourable opinions of the CPM and the LaSalle urban planning advisory committee.

A building with a rich history

Also known as Brunning Residence, 13 avenue Strathyre was originally LaSalle’s City Hall until 1983. It then became home to the Telephone Pioneers of America (a group of Northern Telecom retirees) and lastly to the Cavelier-de-LaSalle historical society.

This project is made possible with the financial support from the Gouvernement du Québec and the Ville de Montreal as part of the Entente
Entente de développement culturel de Montréal.
