Prevention of youth violence

Every year, thousands of young people are involved in violent crimes, either as victims or perpetrators. The city has designed a program to prevent violence and support actions that promote safe living environments for youth.

Objective

Support community-based initiatives that complement the city’s actions in 2020, 2021 and 2022. The city aims to take increased, coherent and joint action to address youth violence.

Current

Eligible projects

The program focuses on actions in two areas. Eligible projects should cover one of these areas.

Area 1 - Intervention with youth at risk

  • Street work, community work and social mediation
  • Occupational activities with an intervention component
  • Education and social and interpersonal skills development

Area 2 - Strengthening community capacity

  • Activities to develop local actors’ knowledge and skills (including carrying out local diagnoses)
  • Group prioritization, problem solving or joint planning exercises
  • Development of specific tools

 

The projects below are not eligible:

  • Support for the overall mission of the organization
  • Community support in housing
  • Capital projects 
  • Physical or mental health care

Target audience

Young people ages 12 to 25 who are considered to be at risk of violence, both as victims and perpetrators, or of delinquency, or youth in difficulty or in social disruption.
