Work on Rue Mayor and Rue Saint-Alexandre: sewer, aqueduct, roads and lighting

This Ville-Marie borough project involves the rehabilitation of sewers and water mains. This will extend their useful life by around 50 years. Work is also planned to ensure pedestrian safety and to update lighting fixtures.

Many of the City’s underground infrastructures were built over the last few centuries. Some are now in need of restoration, including those on Rue Mayor and Rue Saint-Alexandre.

Work phases

  • Phase 1 – Rue Mayor and Rue Saint-Alexandre 
    • Mid-May, for about a week 
  • Phase 2 – Rue Mayor, between Rue City Councilors and Rue Saint-Alexandre 
    • Mid-May to end of June
  • Phases 3 and 4 – Rue Mayor, between Rue Aylmer and Rue De Bleury
    • Late May to early October
  • Phase 5 – Rue Saint-Alexandre, between Rue Mayor and Rue Sainte-Catherine; Rue City Councilors, between Rue Sainte-Catherine and Boulevard De Maisonneuve
    • Early October, for a few days
  • Phase 6 – Rue Mayor, between Rue De Bleury and Rue Aylmer; Rue Saint-Alexandre, between Rue Mayor and Rue Sainte-Catherine; Rue City Councilors and Rue Aylmer at the intersection of Rue Mayor
    • Mid-October, for about two weeks
  • Phase 7 – Rue Mayor, between Rue De Bleury and Rue Aylmer; Rue Saint-Alexandre, between Rue Sainte-Catherine and Rue Mayor; Rue City Councilors and Rue Aylmer, between Rue Sainte-Catherine and Boulevard De Maisonneuve
    • Late October, for about a week

These interventions may be postponed or their duration extended due to weather conditions or other constraints.

What?

  • Phase 1 : Installation of temporary water supply system for duration of worksite
  • Phase 2 : Sewer rehabilitation work
  • Phases 3 and 4 :
    • Aqueduct rehabilitation work
    • Work by the Commission des services électriques de Montréal (CSEM), reconstruction of sidewalks, roadways and construction of projections
  • Phase 5 : Levelling work
  • Phase 6 : Paving work
  • Phase 7 : Installation of road lighting fixtures
