Apply for a compensatory work agreement at municipal court
Did you receive one or more statements of offence that you are unable to pay? You can apply for a compensatory work agreement. Find out how.
If you are unable to pay your statement of offence due to your financial situation, municipal court may let you work unpaid hours to pay off your debt.
The number of work hours is proportionate to the total number of statements of offence.
Eligibility
To qualify for a work agreement, you must prove that you are unable to pay the amounts due, even if your belongings were seized and sold.
If your driver’s license was suspended for failure to pay, the suspension will not be lifted until you have worked all the hours to which you made a commitment in order to pay off your debt.
How to apply for an agreement
To apply, you must:
- Plead guilty or have been found guilty of the offence, meaning that you received a notice of judgment.
- Provide proof of your financial situation (social assistance or EI statements, bank statements, etc.)
Fees apply to enter your plea (see Tariff of Court Costs in Penal Matters (in French)).
