Borrow a document from a library

In order to borrow books, films, music or other documents from a Montréal library, all you need to do is show a valid library card. You are entitled to a maximum number of documents for a period that varies, depending on the type of document you borrow.

Number of documents

A library card holder can borrow a maximum of 40 documents.

This number varies, depending on the category:

  • Novel, documentary, comic strip, Manga, audio book, DVD, language learning module: 40
  • DVD box set, DVD: 10
  • Video games: five

Each library can limit the number of documents borrowed locally.

Loan periods

Books and other documents: three weeks (21 days)

“Vacation” loans

During the summer, from the beginning of June until the beginning of September, the loan period for books and documents is four weeks (28 days). The loan period for DVDs remains unchanged at one week.

Loans within the network

To borrow an item, visit one of the libraries in the network or visit the digital library online.

If you don’t find the book you’re looking for, search the catalogue and ask the librarians: The book may be available through another library in the network. It can be sent to your library on request.
