Take items to an ecocentre – Agglomeration residents

Do you live in the Montréal agglomeration? Learn the rules about bringing items to an ecocentre.

Before you go:

  • View the map to find the ecocentre nearest you.
  • See the waiting time.
  • Sort your items in the trunk of your car: you will have to sort them out on site.
  • Prepare the documents you will have to show.

For your own safety, we recommend you wear safety glasses, closed shoes and work gloves when sorting and unloading your materials.

Acceptable materials

  • Wood: planks and pieces of wood, natural Christmas trees (undecorated), etc.
  • Construction, renovation and demolition debris: metal, asphalt shingles, gypsum board, etc.
  • Electrical appliances: washing machines, clothes dryers, toasters, etc.
  • Refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, wine cellar/fridge : handle these with care to avoid halocarbon gas leaks, (highly toxic to the environment). Only residential appliances are accepted.
  • Electronics
  • Engine oil: leak-proof and closed container of 20 litres maximum
  • Green waste
  • Hazardous household waste
  • Mattresses
  • Recyclable materials: paper, cardboard, glass, plastic, metal
  • Unusable tires that have only been used for residential purposes (eight max. per day)
  • Upholstered furnitures: sofas, chairs, etc.
  • Soil (uncontaminated)
  • Clothing that is still in good condition
Styrofoam

Two ecocentres accept this type of plastic (number 6):

  • Écocentre Saint-Laurent
  • Écocentre LaSalle

Unacceptable materials

Any material not listed as acceptable, and in particular:

  • Asbestos: contact an engineered landfill site (dumping site)
  • Smoke alarms: throw them away with your household garbage
  • Compressed gas cylinders other than propane (insulating foam, welding gas, helium, CO2 cylinders, etc.): contact a specialized business
  • Biomedical waste: consult a health professional or a CSSS (Centre de santé et de services sociaux)
  • Pyrotechnics (fireworks and flares), ammunition and firearms: contact your local police station to make an appointment
  • Medication: take it to a pharmacy
  • Household waste: use the domestic pickup
  • Food waste: use a brown bin or a compost site
  • Contaminated earth: contact a specialized company

Fees

Non-taxable

Construction, renovation and demolition (CRD) waste

  • Up to 12 cubic metres per year: free
  • Beyond that amount: $27 for each extra cubic metre

Other materials

  • Free, but volume may be limited

Use of public weight scale

  • $13.50

Number of visits

No more than 15 visits per year for construction material.

Exception: Unlimited visits to the LaSalle and Saint-Laurent ecocentres are permitted.

Accepted vehicles

Dump trucks are permitted to enter, but it is prohibited to use the bucket in the ecocentre.

Ecocentre

Type of vehicle

Acadie

Vehicles with or without a trailer. They must be less than 7.3 metres (24 feet) long.

Trucks with a body. They must be less than 6.8 metres (22 feet) long.

La Petite-Patrie

Due to construction, only vehicles without trailers will be accepted as of May 30, 2022, until further notice.

Trucks with a body that is no longer than 6.8 metres (22 feet)

Côte-des-Neiges

Vehicles with or without a trailer. They must be less than 11 metres (36 feet) long.

Trucks with a body. They must be less than 7.4 metres (24 feet).

Rivière-des-Prairies

Vehicles with or without a trailer. They must be less than 11 metres (36 feet) long.

Trucks with a body. They must be less than 7.4 metres (24 feet).

Saint-Michel

Vehicles with or without a trailer. They must be less than 11 metres (36 feet) long.

Trucks with a body. They must be less than 7.4 metres (24 feet).

LaSalle

Vehicles with or without a trailer. They must be less than 11 metres (36 feet) long.

Trucks with a body. They must be less than 8.3 metres (27 feet).

Saint-Laurent

Vehicles with or without a trailer. They must be less than 11 metres (36 feet) long.

Trucks with a body. They must be less than 8.3 metres (27 feet).

Required documents

Attention: The ID shown must be that of the person who is physically present at the ecocentre. The piece of ID cannot be that of a person who is not present on-site.

Show one form of photo ID from among the following options:

  • Citizenship card
  • Permanent resident card
  • Québec health insurance card
  • Passport in French or in English showing your date and place of birth
  • Driver’s license

Show one form of proof of address from among the following options:

  • Accès Montréal card
  • Home insurance certificate or statement that is less than one year old
  • School or municipal tax account
  • Bill from a public utility (electricity, telephone, gas or cable provider) that is less than three months old
  • Bill from an educational institution that is less than three months old
  • Monthly statement from a credit or financial institution that is less than three months old
