"Artère en transformation" : Subsidy for businesses

Is your business located on a major street that has undergone underground infrastructure work? This subsidy program offers financial assistance of up to $250,000 per building to renovate and modernize commercial spaces affected by construction.

Description

The reconstruction of waterworks or sewer systems may have an economic impact on commercial streets. This program aims to revitalize them.

 The subsidy includes:

1. Financial support to cover 40 per cent of the cost of eligible work, maximum of $250,000 per building

2. Additional financial support to cover 50 per cent of the cost of a design professional’s fees, maximum of 7.5 per cent of the cost of eligible work or $10,000 per project.

The subsidy is paid once the work is completed. You will need to apply for the subsidy.

Subsidized work

  • Renovation of the front of a business on the first floor and in the basement 
  • Replacement, repair or modification of openings 
  • Repair or replacement of an awning, exterior sign or exterior lighting 
  • The installation of a permanent terrace or access to the building 
  • Renovation of protruding or decorative architectural elements and exterior walls 
  • Renovation of the interior, framing, foundation and roof

Eligibility

Designated commercial streets

This program is available to businesses located on commercial streets designated by the city’s executive committee:

- Rue Saint-Paul Est and surrounding areas. Businesses in this area can apply until February 1, 2023. View the ordinance (in French)

Other criteria

  • The application must be submitted and approved before work begins. 
  • Interior renovations must be limited to commercial spaces only.
  • The building must be located on the territory of the Société de développement commercial (SDC) or of the business association incorporated as a non-profit organization in its sector.
  • The work must be completed within 36 months of the date of receipt of the eligibility notice.

Not eligible

This subsidy does not fund work:

  • That began before the date on which the application is deemed eligible 
  • On a building used wholly or partly for an industrial activity
  • On a building or part of a building housing a gas station, service station, mechanic shop or car wash 
  • That consists of interior renovation if the building’s facade requires renovations 
  • For which another municipal subsidy has been awarded

2- Gather the following documents in digital version: 

  • Proof of rental 
  • A detailed estimate of the cost of the work
  • The owner’s agreement (in French) to carry out the work
  • Up-to-date photos of the building’s façade and of the commercial premises where the work will take place. 

3- Submit your application

Real estate owners

1- Download, fill out and sign the Application for admission form (in French)

2- Gather the following documents in digital version: 

  • Proof of rental 
  • A detailed estimate of the cost of the work
  • Up-to-date photos of the building’s façade and of the commercial premises where the work will take place 
  • If you appoint an agent: A document establishing the mandate of the person acting on your behalf = A document that designates the person as your agent to act on your behalf
