Concrete actions for the environment in Saint-Laurent
In Saint-Laurent, the environment is a priority. Taking action for the climate and biodiversity means thinking about the future, while improving our quality of life today.
Climate action happens in Saint-Laurent !
In Saint-Laurent, we firmly believe that everyone can and must do their part to protect our environment. You don’t have to be a hero to have a positive impact. It’s the little things we do every day that make all the difference.
Are you familiar with Saint-Laurent’s Climate Emergency Plan?
The Climate Emergency Plan (Plan d’urgence climatique - PUC) is a 10-year guide that proposes objectives and orientations for significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. It also aims to protect biodiversity and prepare the community for the impacts of climate change.
Join us in taking action
Your contributions are pivotal as we face the climate crisis. You, too, can take a step in the right direction, right now!
Here is how.
- Dispose of your trash, recyclables and compost in the right bin
- Turn off any lights or electronic devices you’re not using
- Close your curtains on hot days
- Wash your clothes in cold water
- Plan your meals around reducing food waste
- Mow less often, letting your lawn reach 8 to 20 cm high, and leave your grass clippings on the ground. This is called grasscycling!
- Plant native plants to attract birds.
- Try leafcycling in the fall—shred your leaves and “leave” them on the ground
- Plant flowers that pollinators like bees and monarch butterflies enjoy
- Make a plan for evacuating your home in case of a flood or a prolonged power outage
- Borrow or buy what you need second-hand rather than buying new items
- Use a clothesline rather than your dryer
- Seal your windows in winter and lower your heat slightly
- Replace one car trip—walk or bike instead
- Buy local whenever possible
- Once a week, swap out a meal containing red meat with a vegetarian alternative
