Ask for the public portion of a lead water service line to be replaced

Last updated October 28, 2021

Do you have a water service line with a private portion that is made of  copper and a public portion that is made of lead? Would you like for the city to replace the public portion more quickly? Find out how here.

A massive lead service line replacement campaign is underway in Montréal. The city is taking advantage of excavation work that is already being performed to replace the public portion of water service lines that are made of lead. The private portion is also being replaced if it is made of lead.

However, you may have replaced your lead water service line before the city begins its replacement work, and would like for the city to change the public portion quickly. Find out how to file your request.

Conditions

You can ask the city to replace the public portion of the city’s water service line of a building you own if both the following conditions apply:

  • The public portion could be made of lead
  • The private portion is made of copper

Procedures

For your request to be reviewed, you must complete the form below and send it to us by e-mail or postal mail.

Once the city receives your form, you will be contacted to set up an appointment for a water screening at your home to find out if there is lead in the water.

If the screening shows that there is lead in the water, the city will replace the public portion depending on any planning constraints around the situation.
