Ask for the public portion of a lead water service line to be replaced
Have you had the private portion of your water service line replaced and made lead-free? Would you like the city to replace the public section, which is made of lead, more quickly? Find out how.
During certain types of excavations, Montréal also replaces the public portion of water service lines. The city may also replace the private portion if it is also made of lead.
Conditions
You can ask the city to replace the public portion of the water service line of the building you own if the following conditions are met:
- The private portion, from inside the building to your property line, has been replaced (copper).
- The public portion could be made of lead.
Next steps
For your application to be processed, you must:
- Declare the material of your private water service line by filling out the online form in your resident file and attaching the required supporting documents (bill, photos, etc.).
- Fill out the advance replacement form below, making sure to provide your declaration number.
The city will then contact you to screen for lead at your home.
If screening reveals lead in the water, your address will be placed on the city’s list for service line replacement. Your service line will be replaced depending on the city’s timetable and capacity to respond to the large volume of applications.
