Change or cancel an application

Application “pending”

If your application hasn’t been processed yet, you can change or cancel it at no charge. Additional processing time may be needed if you change your application.

Application “processing”

Is your application being processed? If you want to change or cancel it, you must contact the borough where the work will take place directly. Processing and permit change fees will apply.

Change or cancel a permit

Has your permit already been issued? You can change the occupancy dates. To change other details, such as the construction zone, you must cancel your permit and reapply.

Before construction begins

Cancel a permit

You can cancel your permit until 5 p.m. on the day before the occupancy start date. For example, if construction begins on June 10, you have until 5 p.m. June 9 to cancel your permit. Processing and issuance fees apply.

Change the period of occupancy

You can change your occupancy dates until 5 p.m. two days before the occupancy start date. For example, if construction begins on June 10, you have until 5 p.m. June 8 to cancel your permit. 

Please note that weekends and holidays are excluded. For example, if the permit’s start date is a Monday, the deadline is Thursday afternoon. 

You must allow for sufficient time between the time of your application and the new occupancy start date in order for us to assess your application. 

There is no fee to shorten the period of occupancy. To extend or postpone occupancy, you must pay new processing and issuance fees.

During construction

Shorten occupancy

You have until 5 p.m. the day before the end date of construction to shorten the period of occupancy.

For example, if construction begins on June 10, you have until 5 p.m. June 9 to let us know that you are ending your period of occupancy a day early. You will not pay for that day

Extend occupancy

You can change your occupancy dates until 5 p.m. two days before the occupancy start date. For example, if construction begins on June 10, you have until 5 p.m. June 8 to cancel your permit. You will need to pay new processing and issuance fees.

Please note that weekends and holidays are excluded. For example, if the permit’s start date is a Monday, the deadline is Thursday afternoon. 

If you miss the deadline for your extension, you will need to apply for a new permit to continue your occupancy.

Your request to modify your permit may mean that a new permit needs to be issued. You will receive a separate invoice for each permit.
